Because of a planned city motorway to the east, bridges were built along the Hebebrandstraße and the Jahnring. These were, however, never used because the idea was discarded. The plan included a clear separation of free-flowing and resting traffic as well as pedestrians, bicyclists and motorised traffic. This resulted in the raised walkways (no pedestrian crossings) that now lead over the Überseering.
