Initiatives for City Nord
The “Grundeigentümer-Interessengemeinschaft City Nord GmbH” – Property Owners Interest Group (in short: GIG)
Highly praised as an example of revolutionary city planning, City Nord is also controversial in the public eye, as being a monopolised office world. The image of the business location suffered due to changes in the workflow, which also changed the building’s requirements. Today, the goal is to renew and modernise, while retaining the original character of City Nord as a historical office park.
In 2000 GIG founded an amalgamation of all the firms residing in City Nord.
We devote ourselves to the vitalisation of the office park and to bettering the image of City Nord. We want to show the advantages of City Nord and deal with the reservations. The aim is to improve conditions for the people who live and work here.
There are many good arguments for our business location, such as the ideal location next to the City Park, direct proximity to the city centre and the airport, and the convenient traffic and public transport connections. We would like to optimise our connection to the City Park, and are committed to creating close ties between administration, services, culture, sport and recreation.
Amongst many other projects, we managed to stop the City Nord from being declared a historical site. The road to modernisation and structural changes is therefore free, and City Nord will remain in future an open-air stage for present-day architecture. The Oval Office is latest advertisement in the office park. Construction of a new building on Überseering will begin soon. Companies invest millions, thus giving the City Nord new significance.
Today finds about 300 businesses with around 30,000 employees in the office park.
